Conifer is currently hiring for a Transcriptionist

General Summary

This position contributes to the mission of Alegen! t Health by transcribing physician and allied health professio! nal medical dictation.

Consolidated operations include five acute-care metropolitan hospitals located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area; three rural hospitals located in Missouri Valley and Corning, Iowa and in Schuyler, Nebraska; one long-term care facility located in Omaha; one ambulatory service facility at Lakeside in Omaha; minority owner of community hospital in Blair; home care programs serving the region; multiple metropolitan and rural health care clinics/offices; major programmatic initiatives in managed care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, senior services, cardiovascular services, orthopaedics, women’s and children’s services, and oncology; and joint ventures with community partners in pediatrics and hospice.

This position is in the Document Management Department. The Document Management Department transcribes dictated patient reports for Alegent Health providers and manages administrative document libra! ries and archives. Document Management maintains and safeguards on-line and hard copy documents of Alegent Health. The department serves medical staff, allied health professionals, administration and all Alegent Health facilities and departments.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent reports directly to the Operations Director, Document Management.

The incumbent works collaboratively with other medical transcriptionists, medical records staff, documentation interns, and transcription support staff.

The incumbent works in a high production environment with responsibility for prioritizeding work to maintain turnaround times.

The incumbent in this position is given assignments that require a seasoned depth of knowledge in a medical specialty, or, that vary in report or correspondence type, originator, and specialty.

The incumbent is able to resolve non-routine problems independently and assist in resolving complex or highly unusua! l transcription problems.

The incumbent will be assigned to on! e Alegent site/facility but willmay work at or for any Alegent site/facility as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Transcribes all types of medical reports dictated by physicians and allied health professionals including operative reports and procedure notes, history-and-physicals and consultations, specialty clinic reports and correspondence, progress notes and clinical resumes.

Follows prescribed procedures for use of various forms and formats.

Assists in research of questions and in the education of others involved with patient care documentation.

Maintains production and quality standards.

Recommends professional reference materials for use such as specialty word books and lists, dictionaries, glossaries, and directories.

Observes policies for release of medical information and upholds confidentiality of the medical record.

Dependent on workflow and workload, may work as a Service Line Me! dical Transcriptionist, transcriptionist trainer, or assist in transcription support functions.

Demonstrates work practices consistent with Alegent Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.

Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.

Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications

:

Experience

Two years experience as a Medical Language Specialist in a clinic or hospital setting.

Educational

A minimum of a Medical Language Specialist certification is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The incumbent must possess:
Expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values related to! patient care.

In-depth knowledge of medical transcription gui! delines and practices within hospital and clinic settings.

Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style and proofreading.

Ability to use a vast array of professional reference materials, often in innovative ways.

Ability to educate others (one-on-one or group).

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to operate document management, dictation, transcription and other equipment as specified and to troubleshoot as necessary.

The ability to key accurately at a minimum of 75 wpm.

The ability to work in a high production environment, under pressure and with time constraints.

Ability to concentrate.

Excellent listening skills.

Excellent eye, hand and auditory coordination.

Proven business skills, i.e., scheduling work, prioritizing, client relations, etc.

Ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts (e.g., confidentiality).
Ability to communicate effectively and make decisions independently.
