Cares for patients aged neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric at various development levels. Patients ar! e from both traditional and non-traditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provider
Utilizes the nursing process to assess and prioritize patient needs.
Formulates, implements and evaluates the patient’s plan of care. Adjusts plan of care in consultation with the Charge nurse as appropriate and implements plan.
Uses basic communication skills to provide care to assigned patients/ families. Relays pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health care team members such as medicine, dietary and support staff. Initiates discharge planning working in collaboration with the appropriate staff.
Initiates appropriate nursing action in crisis or emergency situations.
Carries out physician orders.
Provides continuity of care to meet the patient’s changing needs.
Records informat! ion on the patient record in accordance with charting guidelin! es.
Utilizes time management principles and techniques.
Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments.
Recognizes examples of use of evidence/research based practice- at performance appraisal presents journal article supporting specific approach to a nursing care problem.
Teacher
Uses available teaching aids to implement teaching plans of assigned patients and revises the plan based on evaluation of effectiveness.
Advocate
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
Respects the rights of patients and significant others.
Responsible for reporting and/or correcting potential patient safety conditions or practices.
Professional/Leader
Demonstrates knowledge about the ethical, legal, professional values of nursing, guided by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
Demonstrates pos! itive communication, problem solving skills.
Assists the charge nurse with coordination of patient care and appropriate utilization services through use of clinical pathways.
Utilizes time management principles and techniques.
Effectively delegates to all levels of staff in collaboration with the charge nurse based on their scope of practice, job descriptions, abilities and patient/unit needs.
Works to maintain positive team relationships with co-workers, physicians, and other members of the health care team.
Supports Performance Improvement and Patient Safety at the unit/organizational level.
Customer Service
Receives, greets and directs patients, family members, clients, visitors and physicians in a positive and conscientious manner adhering to customer excellence standards
Acknowledges internal and external customers with eye contact and a smile.
Phones are answered promptly with a friendly ! voice using a proper greeting. Ability to prioritize, organize and effe! ctively handle multiple tasks and interruptions in a positive manner.
Qualifications
Education:
Knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of an accredited school of nursing.
Experience:
Prefer candidates with a minimum of 2 years Med/Surg experience or prior Labor/Delivery experience.
Licensure:
Current
Nebraska license as a registered nurse. Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification; BLS Certification.
