EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Three to six months related experience and / or training preferred.
CERTIFICATE, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: BLS certification
JOB SUMMARY: Works under close supervision provided by the rehabilitation therapist while performing routine tasks that relate to the operation of the rehab department and assisting with various therapy related activities. Applies the principles of growth and development to the care of adult and geriatric age patients, and on occasion adolescent / pediatric patients.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Assists/transports patients to and from the treatment area including the care unit, other! departments, patient's vehicle, etc.
2. Prepares patients! for treatment and assists with putting on or removing supportive devices such as braces, splints, etc., before and after treatments.
3. Participates in routine patient treatments such as: hydrotherapy, hot and cold packs, paraffin bath, range-of-motion exercises, strengthening exercises and may secure patients into or onto therapy equipment for other treatments / procedures etc., under the direction of a therapist.
4. Assists patients to learn and improve functional activities such as: preambulation, ambulation, activities-of-daily living (ADL's), transfer skills, using assistive devices such as: wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, etc.
5. Assists patients with either group or individual activities of interest such as: games, crafts, hobbies, etc., which help improve physical / mental function.
6. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide age specific and appropriate care of the patient accordi! ng to their age category; interprets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs consistent with the care of the patient.
7. Prepares and cleans treatment rooms, maintains supplies and stocks / replaces supplies used in treatment areas as needed.
8. Communicates with therapist or nursing staff as appropriate regarding patient's condition, treatments, progress, problems, etc.
9. May perform clerical duties such as: entering charges, answering phone, taking / giving messages, filling out forms or other paper work, etc.
10. Attends and participates in departmental meetings / inservices, Mary Lanning Healthcare quality improvement program, etc.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
