EDUCATION: Master's degree (MA/MS) in clinical area of expertise or equivalent preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years related experience and / or training required.
CERTIFICATE, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS:
: Current license in clinical area of expertise from the state of Nebraska.
: BLS certification
JOB SUMMARY: Works under limited supervision while directing the rehabilitation services of the hospital. Applies the principles of growth and development to the care of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Plans, organizes, directs and is accountable for the operation of the department; ensures all department systems, procedures, activities a! re functioning properly; develops scope of services, short and! long term goals and strategies for department which are integrated into the hospital wide strategic plan; participates in recommending / selecting any outside resources needed for improving departmental operation.
2. Develops, establishes and administers the rehabilitation department policies, practices, procedures, programs, systems, etc.
3. Communicates hospital mission, vision, plans, goals, values, culture, etc. to staff and interacts with staff to assess and evaluate the integration of these objectives for measuring departmental operational effectiveness and staff moral.
4. Collaborates with other departments and administration in designing , developing, integrating, providing departmental services with other departments and for making effective decisions which contribute to quality patient care; fosters communication among staff and between departments to enhance teamwork, efficiency, coordination of patient care, etc.
5. Gathers, ! assesses, acts on information collected through patient satisfaction surveys or other customer survey sources, individual patient comments or correspondence, etc. in order to improve hospital care and services.
6. Participates in and continually assesses and monitors quality improvement activities / practices in department along with setting quality improvement plans, goals, expectations, measurements, outcomes, etc.; coordinates quality improvement activities with the hospital quality improvement plan and quality management department.
7. Develops annual budgets for use of hospital resources, i.e. capital, labor, expense, etc. and monitors budget use and compliance on a monthly basis; reviews budget needs and use, makes recommendations for resource needs / allocations, space requirements, effective cost reductions, etc. with vice president on a regular basis.
8. Decides and defines the qualifications and requirements needed for having competent s! taff; interviews and selects qualified individuals for staffing departm! ent; provides orientation, inservice training and continuing education / development opportunities for employees as needed to perform their duties and maintain competency consistent with resources provided by the hospital.
9. Develops departmental work schedules, arranges job structure and assignments, develops workload standards and procedures, establishes staffing plans of qualified staff, monitors labor hours and makes reports to payroll for any changes as needed.
10. Monitors and evaluates employee work performance and annually conducts regular performance evaluations based on the employees job description; provides direction and counseling including discipline / termination when needed; ensures the fair, compassionate and equal treatment of all employees according to hospital / departmental policies and practices and federal / state regulations; conducts departmental staff meetings to receive and disseminate information and provides opportunity for st! aff development and recognition.
11. Selects, purchases various kinds of equipment and supplies for departmental operation, provides employees with appropriate orientation and training in use of equipment and supplies; ensures that all equipment is appropriately maintained and used in a safe condition.
12. Communicates with other departments regarding the care and treatment of rehabilitation services patients; keeps medical director and administration informed of departmental operation and activity and prepares reports as required.
13. Develops, recommends, evaluates marketing opportunities of rehabilitation services with area physicians and builds / maintains relationships with physicians and other referral sources.
14. Evaluates and monitors patient care treatment program and checks to see if care plans are developed by staff to ensure compliance with physician orders and quality care standards; ensures summaries are completed by approp! riate staff and forwarded to physicians; ensures that charts are comple! te and all necessary forms are in charts and signed.
15. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide age specific and appropriate care of the patient according to their age category; interprets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs consistent with the care of the patient.
16. Maintains department records, reports, files, etc.
17. Monitors the safety standards and practices of the department; ensures compliance with hospital safety program and disaster plans.
18. May practice clinically in the area of specialized training as needed.
19. Participates and attends various committees / meetings such as: Department Head Committee, Management Development Committee, etc.
20. Educates and communicates Corporate Compliance to staff.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY REPORTS:
: Di! rects approximately 25 employees in the Rehabilitation Services department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department and its various cost centers.
: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
: Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining, including terminating; addressing complaint and resolving problems; managing budgets and hospital resources; supporting the mission and philosophy of the hospital and acting as a role model for employees.
FINANCIAL:
: The individual has expressed authority to make financial decisions within approved budget, greater amounts must be approved by vice president / president.
: Responsible use and care of all hospital resources within the department
EXPOSURE TO H! AZARDS: The work environment is primarily inside where the climate ! is controlled. The noise level is usually quiet. The employee may be occasionally exposed to communicable diseases as well as blood and body fluids if involved clinically, moving, mechanical parts, electrical equipment and fumes and airborne particles.
