Works under the supervision of the Physical Therapy Director. Plans and administers medic! ally prescribed or referred occupational therapy treatment programs for patients to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability following disease, injury, surgery, or loss of body part. Must document patient care, educate and inform patient and referring physician on outlined plan of care and discharge as guided by patient progress and managed care directives. The occupational therapist treats and evaluates patients with upper extremity dysfunction disease or muscular discord, pediatric patients, patients with neuromuscular disease and the patient requiring orthotic or prosthetic attention.

Uses and Discloses patient protected health information: 1) Only as it applies to job functions, 2) in amounts minimally necessary for intended purpose, 3) in a confidential manner.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
1.Establishes yearly goals.

2.Establishes an occupational therapy diagnosis thro! ugh baseline assessment of function and form.

3.Super! vises aides in preparation

or

assistance with patient care.

4.Communicates assertively and openly about patient's care plan.

5.Maintains daily progress notes, correspondence with referring physician and departmental documentation procedures.

6.Recognizes responsibilities and role as primary therapist when other therapists are involved with patient care.

7.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial

,

safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Marginal Job Functions:
1.Participates in staff meetings.

2.Administers manual therapeutic exercise.

3.Instructs, motivates and assists patients in nonâ€'manual exercises.

4.Trains/educates staff personnel, students, community, etc.

5.Completes other delegated projects or duties as assigned.

6.Participates in depar! tment's QI activity.

Qualifications

Education

:

Bachelor's or doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy and must have graduated from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy.

Licensure/Certification:
1. Current Nebraska Occupational Therapist license.

2. Licensed in the state of Nebraska with a Certificate to Apply Physical Agent Modalities, preferred, but not required.

3. Currently on the Medication Aide Registry (only as related to administration of oxygen) or obtain training, complete competency and be registered on the Medication Aide Registry within 30 days of hire.

4. Maintain Medication Aide Registry status with demonstrated competency every two years.

5. Current completion of CPR for the Healthcare Provider (BLS).

6.Courses in LEARN will count towards meeting this requirement, including but not limited to Rapid Regs and Corporate Compliance courses.

7.It ! is the associate’s responsibility to provide documentation of the edu! cation required.

Experience/Pre-Requisites:
1. Verbal, qualitative, and interpersonal skills are necessary because of the ongoing communication needed between patient and therapist.

2.Must have knowledge and familiarity of theory of physical medicine, application of modalities and occupational therapy agents and procedures relative to occupational therapy and the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, disease and dysfunction.

Professionalism/Growth and Development:
1.Remain current on Occupational Therapy as a profession, active in health care changes and reform.

2.Must outline, complete and review yearly goals.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
1.Must be able to transfer patients according to departmental procedures, lift 50 lbs. on an occasional basis, stand or walk up to four hours in duration on an occasional basis, and pull 50 lbs. (inpatients in supine position) on an occasiona! l basis.

2.Must be able to sit frequently up to one hour while reaching and working with patients at a table designed for therapeutic intervention.
