COMPLETE CHILDREN’S HEALTH, P.C. Job Description

JOB TITLE: Clinic Nurse

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care under supervision for clinic patients.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Nursing Team Leader and/or Nursing Team Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Precepts students or new employees at the direction of the Nursing Team Leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(This list may not include all of the duties assigned)

1. Rooms patients and prepares them for examination by provider. 2. Measures vital signs, obtains history and documents same in electronic medical record (EMR) initiating progress note and updating medication list. 3. Provides patient/family education regarding growth, development, safety, nutrition and vaccines. 4. Anticipates and performs preliminary specimen collection and CLIA waived lab testing as indicated (e.g. Urinalysis, rapid strep). 5. Prepares for and assists provider with procedures such as sutures, toenail removal, pelvic exam, casting, cast removal. 6. Performs vision & hearing screens as indicated. 7. Administers vaccines, medications and treatments as ordered by provider and within scope of practice. 8. Performs specimen collection (e.g. phlebotomy, capillary draws, catheterized and clean catch urine) 9. Performs CLIA waived labs (e.g. urinalysis, hemoglobin, lead, rapid strep, transcutaneous bilirubin.) 10. Prepares specimens and orders for send out labs. 11. Documents and reports lab results to providers and patients. 12. Facilitates scheduling and follow up for patients referred for consults and procedures. 13. Maintains organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area. 14. Attends meetings as required 15. Maintain satisfactory, regular and predictable attendance by reporting to work as scheduled and keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum. 16. Ensures all communications reflect the standards and mission of CCH. 17. Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA Guidelines. 18. Displays a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude. 19. Performs other duties as assigned 20. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

Other functions & duties:
1. Prepares exam rooms for use, monitoring supplies, logging on computers, sanitizing exam table and equipment between uses. 2. Closes exam rooms at the end of the day, logging off computers. 3. Maintains supply of educational materials. 4. Monitors drug samples, discarding expired medications. 5. Ensures all exam & treatment rooms & procedure trays remain stocked. 6. Sterilizes instruments, performs autoclave maintenance. 7. Monitors emergency supplies, ensuring availability and integrity. 8. Maintains equipment, reporting repair needs to team leader. 9. Performs triage per triage nurse job description if qualified. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid Nebraska state license to practice nursing. (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse), CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience working with infant, child and adolescent patients in a clinic setting strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understanding of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care in a pediatric clinic setting. Knowledgeable of organization’s policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care to infants, children and adolescents. Properly uses medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Aware of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures. Skilled in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of nursing to provide on-going patient care to infants, children and adolescents. Identifies problems and recommends solutions. Accurately maintains the EMR. Maintains effective working relationships with patients, patients’ families and/or guardians, medical and clinical staff, and the public. Maintains quality control standards. Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Has the ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Communicates clearly; and works collaboratively with physicians and other staff in accordance with the CCH mission statement.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Working under stress and use of telephone required. Manual dexterity required for use of calculator and computer keyboard. Interaction with others is constant and interrupted. Contact involves dealing with sick people. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods of time; occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; works under stressful conditions and potentially works irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable disease or body fluids. CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
