Oversees the extracorpeal program at Childrenâs Hospital & Medical Center in collaboration with the Extracorporeal Program Medical Director(s). Promotes the delivery of! care to the patient needing extracorporeal support through clinical practice, consultation, education, collaboration, leadership and research. Acts as an advocate for both patient/family and health care providers by influencing change to promote the extracorporeal program. Serves as a role model for nursing staff, assists in staff development, and provides direction patient care when needed.

Perform a variety of ECMO coordination functions to assure the provisions of mechanical and clinical expertise and resources to support the extracorporeal program.
Responsible for the delivery of safe care to these patients by monitoring variance reports/concerns, rounding on patients and staff when extracorporeal care is being delivered, and leading committees which are responsible for the extracorpeal program.
Develops, interprets and monitors compliance with extracorporeal program pr! otocols, policies and procedures; makes recommendations for re! visions and updates as needed as related to extracorpeal care.
Manages staffing resources for all roles related to the care of the patient needing extracorporeal support including internal and external (contract) staff.
Responsible for contract attainment and management of agency personnel for the program.
Coordinates, implements and evaluates extracorporeal program related education and inservice programs for nurses and other staff involved in provision of care to this set of patients.
Assures competency of all team members.
Manages the collection of data and maintenance of accurate statistical information for extracorporeal program.
Develops reports as requested by authorized persons, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) and other regulatory agencies.
Leads performance improvement activities and implements changes based on best practice.
Prioritizes program needs based on quality indicators! and provides a summary of program performance to the ECMO Interdisciplinary Committee and ECMO.
Interprets and applies current related research.
Participates in ongoing research relevant to extracorporeal support. In collaboration with the Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Manager, surgical and medical directors, develops expense and capital budgets for the program.
Assists in the monitoring, evaluation and justification of monthly budget expenditures and revenue as it applies to the extracorpeal program.
Assures compliance with ELSO standards and standards from other regulatory agencies as appropriate.

Coordinates professional nursing and individualized, family centered care to pediatric patients/families through the use of the nursing process and clinical skills in accordance with standards and hospital policies and procedures.
Conducts individualized age-specific patient/family assessments according to def! ined unit scope and nursing practice standards, appropriate collaborati! ve problems (CPG's)/nursing diagnoses(ND's), or protocols.
Develops individualized patient/family plan of care using CPG/NDâs, and practice guidelines/protocols to meet identified needs. (Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on care, education, discharge needs.)
Implements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs.
Ensure documentation reflects accurate assessment/evaluation, modification, and patientâs response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelorâs degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing required.
Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience including two (2) years of critical care and ECMO/extracorpeal experience required.
Fully trained in ECMO/extracorpeal required.
Previous pediatric experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Current and valid Nebraska RN license/Compact state license required.
Current and valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
Current and valid PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life support) certification required
